Construction Accidents and Workers’ Compensation

A worker injured on a construction site may be entitled to compensation through Worker’s Compensation Insurance coverage. Worker’s Compensation is a state-mandated program that distributes benefits to workers who qualify, when they are injured on the job.

What Is Worker’s Compensation?

Worker’s Compensation Insurance provides medical and wage benefits to people who qualify and are injured or become ill at work.  It is an important safety net for employees when they are injured while on the job.

Employers are required to have Worker’s Compensation Insurance to cover workers in the event of an accident. Under Worker’s Compensation Insurance, an injured worker may be entitled to the following:

Medical Treatment
A qualified injured victim has the right to all reasonable and necessary medical treatments to cure or relieve the effects of his or her injury. This may include medical bills, prescriptions, and hospital visits. In some cases, if a victim needs equipment to help deal with his or her injury, Worker’s Compensation may also cover the cost of buying the equipment. Workers’ Compensation may also cover services such as counseling, pain therapy and acupuncture.

Temporary Disability
If the injuries cause a victim to take time away from work, he or she may be entitled to temporary disability payments.

Permanent Disability
If the injuries cause a permanent impairment, a victim may be entitled to a monetary award. The amount will depend on the type of limitation the injuries have caused. The worker’s age, occupation, and earnings at the time of the injury are other factors taken into consideration.

Vocational Rehabilitation
If the injury prevents an injured worker from returning to his or her former job, the employer must provide assistance in getting another job. During vocational rehabilitation, a victim may be entitled to partial income from the employer.
