What are some ways to prevent accidents at construction sites?

To prevent accidents at construction sites:

  • Workers must familiarize themselves with all potential fall hazards on the job site.
  • Employers must provide fall guardrails, safety net systems and personal fall arrest systems to protect workers working on surfaces with unprotected edges or sides.
  • Workers working on, under or around a scaffold must wear hard hats. They should also wear sturdy, non-skid work boots to prevent slips and falls.
  • Workers must wear head protection wherever there is the potential for being struck on the head.
  • Employers must ensure that all scaffoldings are designed, erected and disassembled by competent people.
  • Workers using ladders must maintain three points of contact while ascending and descending the ladder.
  • Employers must ensure that all defective ladders are marked or tagged and taken out of service until they can be properly repaired.
  • Employers must implement safety programs to protect workers and prevent accidents at construction sites.
